Oyster and Lightening

Titled from a photograph by Jesse Vasquez

Oyster and Lightening

once up on a clock,

before day moves
before night
before sun,

dance,

partnered
seconds and centuries,

seconds with sinew
with muscles
with minutes,

and lightening lashed
a dark room,

passing motion into law,

sea creatures
dust
a right foot
an arm
a rib,

two new creatures
rag ends,

to raise and set suns,

a hurricane
tosses lives
over new land,

breaks windows
light cracks
this lonely
shuttered
empty night,

now humans watch
from their graveside.
